Paint-A-Drain Campaign

Storm drain stenciling

Participate in our "Paint-A-Drain" campaign.

Paint-A-Drain seeks to curb stormwater pollution through hands- on, service learning techniques like storm drain stenciling. Storm drain stenciling is the act of labeling storm drain inlets with messages that remind people not to dump anything down the drain. It is a worthwhile, educational program designed for 5th through 12th grade students, adults, families, local youth groups, and church groups.

Volunteers can help us reach our goal of stamping more than 61,000 storm drain inlets in the unincorporated county area.

The pollution comes from where?

Storm drain inlets, located near curbsides and streets, act as a conduit to local waterways, including the American and Sacramento Rivers. Unlike household drains that route directly to a wastewater treatment plant, storm drains travel underground and funnel directly to our waterways untreated. And when water is contaminated with pollutants, it creates stormwater pollution, which seriously impacts our natural water resources.

What you'll receive.

Getting involved is easy. To help organize a stenciling project in your neighborhood or to get students involved, please contact Sacramento County Department of Water Resources at (916) 874-6851.
