Programs for Kids/Schools

The Sacramento County Stormwater Management Program has a variety of hands-on educational programs. Below are a few of the programs we offer to the community:

Watershed Education Grant Opportunity

Due to the economic conditions, the Watershed Education Grant Program has been temporarily postponed for the 2009-2010 school year. Please check back later for updates. Thank you.

Splash

Splash Program website linkSacramento Splash is hands-on, science-based program for Sacramento County students. Splash provides curricula and assistance for students to explore the diversity of life in our local creeks, vernal pool, and lakes, in the classroom and in the field. By studying the organisms that inhabit our local aquatic ecosystems, students gain awareness of water quality and watershed issues.

Stormwater Calendar

Our Stormwater Calendar is produced annually with Pollution Prevention/Awareness Drawings submitted through Sacramento Bee’s Design-An-Ad contest. Over 10,000 are printed and distributed throughout Sacramento County. The 2009 calendar can be downloaded as a PDF here (1.8 Mb).

Free ScreenSavers — Screensavers (for Windows PCs only), featuring calendar artwork and stormwater messages, are available for free download:

Uncompress the file after saving it to your hard drive, then read the ReadMe.txt file to install the screensaver to your computer.

Classroom presentations

Sacramento County Stormwater Quality Program promotes water pollution prevention through classroom presentations for grades 3 through 6 in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County. These presentations feature an interactive stormwater model that represents a neighborhood in any community. Children learn about how pollutants enter our waterways and how we can be the solution to stormwater pollution. For more information about classroom presentations, please call 874-5733.
